LED strip light is also called as ribbon light or LED tape and is has a circuit board that is flexible which is populated by light emitting diodes on its surface which comes with an adhesive at the back. A series of LEDs are attacked on a material which is usually called as LED strip. These LED strips can be used in accent lighting, task lighting, backlighting and other decorative lighting. Because of the improved technology, the luminous efficacy of LEDs is increased which increased the lifespan of LEDs. Hence, LED strips are being used in many applications like halogen and fluorescent lighting fixture replacements, high brightness task lighting, indirect lighting applications, set and costume design, inspection of ultra violet rays during manufacturing process and in growing plants.

Design of LED strip lights

LED strips are available in various colors and these strips also consist of water resistance and adhesive features. In order to make these strips water resistant, the lighting is covered with heat conducting epoxy that prevents the contact of lighting with water. However, all the LED strips are operated in 12 or 24 volts of DC current. But, USB strip lights operate with 5V DC as all USB devices consume less power. People can also get customized LED strips as various features like brightness; color can be adjusted according to the needs of customer. All these customizations can be done with the help of a microcontroller.

Applications

LED strips are called Linear LEDs as all the LEDs are placed on the strip linearly which can be cut according to the needed length. Because of this flexibility, Led strips care used for various purposes: both indoor and outdoor. However, these applications depend on the requirement of water proof. These LED strips are extremely versatile and can also be used in any number of installations. In addition to traditional lighting uses of LED strips, they are extremely used in many DIY projects and lighted clothing. As LED strips are used in USB devices or battery packs, they are extremely portable. Some of the applications of LED strips include costume lights, computer lighting, workspace lighting, toys, display ambient lighting, alcove lighting. The main differences in the control of Led strips lie in the color differences and the addressability issues of LED. Hence these LED strips are categorized into: single color and non-addressable LEDs, multi color and non-addressable LEDs, RGB and non-addressable, RGB Addressable.
